Thymulin

Also known as: Facteur Thymique Serique, FTS, Thymic Factor

Thymulin is a nonapeptide hormone produced exclusively by the thymic epithelium. It requires zinc for biological activity and plays a critical role in T-lymphocyte maturation, differentiation, and immune regulation. Thymulin levels decline dramatically with age, contributing to immunosenescence.

Key Benefits

  • Enhances T-cell maturation and differentiation
  • Boosts NK cell cytotoxic activity
  • Reduces inflammatory cytokine production (TNF-α, IL-1)
  • Anti-nociceptive (pain-reducing) properties
  • Restores age-related immune decline
  • Anti-inflammatory via serotonin pathway modulation

Mechanism of Action

Thymulin binds to specific receptors on immature T-cells to induce differentiation markers and enhance cytotoxic T-cell activity. It promotes IL-2 receptor expression, enhances NK cell function, and modulates the balance between Th1 and Th2 immune responses. Its active form requires a zinc cofactor (Zn-FTS).
