SNAP-8

Also known as: Acetyl Octapeptide-3, Leuphasyl, Octapeptide-3

SNAP-8 is a synthetic octapeptide cosmetic ingredient that reduces the depth of expression lines and wrinkles by competitively inhibiting the SNARE complex involved in acetylcholine release at neuromuscular junctions, providing a topical 'Botox-like' effect.

Key Benefits

  • Reduces depth of dynamic expression wrinkles
  • Smooths forehead lines, crow's feet, glabellar lines
  • Non-invasive topical Botox alternative
  • Can be incorporated into serums, creams, eye contour products
  • Reduces muscle contraction without paralysis
  • Improves skin texture and firmness over time
  • Complements other anti-aging peptides (Argireline, Matrixyl)

Mechanism of Action

SNAP-8 is an 8-amino acid analog of the N-terminal portion of SNAP-25 (synaptosomal-associated protein 25), a component of the SNARE complex. SNAP-8 competes with native SNAP-25 for a position in the SNARE complex assembly, preventing acetylcholine vesicle docking and release at neuromuscular junctions. Reduced acetylcholine release means reduced muscle contraction intensity, which over time decreases the formation and depth of dynamic wrinkles (expression lines around eyes, forehead, mouth). Unlike Botox, SNAP-8 does not cause muscle paralysis.

Dosing Protocols

Anti-Wrinkle Serum Protocol

Dose
3–10% concentration in formulation
Frequency
1–2x daily
Timing
Morning and/or evening after cleansing
Cycle
Ongoing; visible results typically in 28–56 days

Most effective on expression lines (dynamic wrinkles); use in combination with Argireline for enhanced effect

Eye Contour Protocol

Dose
5–8% concentration
Frequency
Twice daily
Timing
AM and PM on clean skin around eyes
Cycle
Ongoing

Apply 2–3 drops around eye area; do not exceed 10% concentration
