Mechanism of Action#

DS5 and DSIP derivatives are believed to act via modulation of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis activity, reduction of corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) release, and facilitation of delta-wave (slow-wave) sleep architecture. They may interact with GABA-B receptors and opioid receptor subtypes to promote sleep onset and deepen sleep quality. The exact receptor binding profile of DS5 variants is not fully characterized.
